Shilpa Shetty, daughter of Vasanth Shetty and Yashodha Shetty has become a household name in Karnataka, thanks to her serial “Eradu Kanasu”. It has not been even a week since her serial has started telecasting and people are recognizing her as Sahaja, the character which she plays in the serial. In an exclusive chat with SeeandSay.in,
Shilpa Shetty speaks about her journey to small screen:
Did you want to be an actress?
Yes, I always wanted to be an actress. I am from Puttur. I was into modelling. I had done Diploma in Electronics and Communication from Vivekananda institution and later joined Engineering in Sahyadri College in Mangaluru. I decided to quit engineering as I came to know, engineering is not my cup of tea. I was passionate about acting and
decided that I will become an actress. I came to Bengaluru and started giving auditions. It’s been just few months, I came to Bengaluru and I got selected for “Eradu Kanasu “, which has many stalwarts supporting it.
How was your feeling to be selected as a lead in a big serial?
I consider myself lucky that I bagged a lead role in such a big serial at an early stage of my career. I am sharing screen space with legendary Pranaya Raja Srinath sir. Pradeep Belawadi sir is producing the serial. Popular actors like Nagesh Yadav, Big Boss fame Chandrika, Sunil Purnaik, Sudha Belawadi and Pushpa Belawadi are also part of the serial. Adhvithi Shetty is playing the role of my younger sister, Sahana. The serial is directed by Mohena Singh, who has directed many ad films and Hindi serials as well.
How has the response been of the serial?
It has been a week since the serial has been telecasted. We have got a prime time of 9 PM in Star Suvarna. The response to the serial has been great. Our team is satisfied with the response. People are recognizing me by my character Sahaja. I think that an actor being recognized by her character name is her biggest reward.
What is the serial about?
The serial is about women empowerment. It is a story of man who raises up his two daughters to be independent. The serial gives a wonderful message about education to girls. Nagesh Yadav plays the role of my father and is an auto driver. It revolves around his two daughter Sahaja (played by me) and Sahana (played by Adhvithi Shetty).
What is your role in the serial?
Sahaja is a strong girl. She is not someone who can be controlled and is very straight forward, bold and sweet girl. I play the role of very ambitious girl. She loves her family very much and she is ready to do anything for her family. Her only dream is to fulfil her father’s dream and she’s MBA topper. Anirudh Balaji (Arjun) has been paired opposite me in the serial.
What do you think is the main attraction of your serial?
It is undoubtedly the senior artist “Pranaya Raja” Srinath sir. He has worked in so many blockbuster films and has fans worldwide. But he is still down to earth. He plays the role of hero’s grandfather. I feel people will love him in this role.
Who is your role model?
I am inspired by many actors. In my sets, I am still learning a lot. But I admire Anushka Shetty a lot. She is also from Puttur which is also my home town. She has inspired many young talents with her acting skills.
Any plans of acting in films?
I am getting offers now. But I cannot sign any films as I want to concentrate on my serial. May be one year down the line, I may act in films. But as of now it is only “Eradu Kanasu”. Language has never been a barrier to me. I would love be part of good content films irrespective of any language.
“Eradu Kanasu” is being telecasted in Star Suvarna at 9PM in weekdays. You can also catch the episode on HotStar app anytime. Shilpa Shetty has all the qualities to make it big in tinsel town. Seeandsay.in wishes her all the best for her future projects.
