Film festivals are a trend in almost all film industries across the world. Popular films are played in film festivals, which helps it to reach more audience. Tulu film industry, which is in growing stage has now come to know the importance of it. Tulu Film Producers’ Association is all set to organise the first ever Tulu film festival from January 5 to 11, 2018 at Cinepolis.
Over 28 Tulu films will be screened in a week. As many as 24 films have already been finalised. Four films will be screened every day the entire week. The schedule will be drawn by lots. The film festival will be a great opportunity for all Tulu cine lovers to grab seats and watch their favourite films.
There are plans of inviting chief minister Siddaramaiah for the inauguration of the film festival which is being planned on a grand scale. The reason for this is to promote Tulu films. Even though we are seeing some good Tulu films being made, they are not getting the desired success. The reason for this is small market. The only way to increase the market share is to promote the filmmore aggressively.
Film Festivals will help in this. A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Film festivals are typically annual events. The best-known film festivals are the Cannes Film Festival, the Venice Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival.`
For the filmmakers, festivals present a significant way to market their film. There are opportunities to network within the industry. They can get feedback from audiences and judges. Share tips and information on topics from technical aspects of filming to location hints. Introductions are made and collaborations are born. Shopping films on the festival circuit can be both grueling and very satisfying and the grind can take its toll. But the passion and fortitude of the filmmaker is without refute and the time, energy, and effort they put into not only telling their story but tirelessly working to bring it to audiences on the festival circuit is greatly appreciated by festival directors, other filmmakers, and especially the audiences.
Commenting on this, Rakesh, a film journalist said, “It is a good move by Tulu Film Producers’ Association. This must have been done long time back. However it is better late than never. Tulu Film Festival will help more people watch the film. It would be great if Tulu Film Festival is held in other cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai, as there are lots of Tuluvas there. More and more people must watch films in Tulu. This is the only way Tulu films can increase market.”
The big question in everyone’s mind is whether doing this film festival is commercially viable. The film festival is being done with aim of not getting money but to increase popularity of films. Therefore not much revenue can be expected from ticket collections. Sponsors is needed for these events and we can expect them to support Tulu films.
All in all, this is a good move by Tulu Film Producers’ Association. The details regarding the film festival will be made soon.
