Mangaluru: B A Mohiuddin Bava of the Congress has been defeated by BJP’s Bharath Shetty. BJP candidate Shetty secured 39372 followed by Bava with 27932. Meanwhile Muneer Katipalla of the CPIM secured 880. This defeat has shocked everyone as it was expected that Bava will win the elections.
Bava, who spoke to reporters alleged that Hindutva wave led to defeat. “BJP polarised the votes in the name of religion and caste. They got success in their agenda. They hijacked the development works which I had done for my constituency by Hindutva. There were no issues in the Congress since we fought unitedly.”
He also blamed the EVM’s and said, “EVM is the reason for my loss. BJP has tampered with it. Therefore they won. Or else there is no way, BJP can win. I had garnered so much support when I went for campaining. I will eb complaining to Election Commission regarding this.”
Initially it looked like BJP will sweep the elections, however it now looks there will be coalition government. BJP has won 104 seats, while Congress has won 77 seats, JDS has won 39 seats, with independents winning 2 seats.
