Congress leader and Kanakapura MLA D K Shivakumar was the one responsible for the present government to be formed. He single handedly stopped Amit Shah’s masterplan of poaching Congress MLA’s. However it looks like he is not going to get rewarded as expected by Congress.
D K Shivakumar initially showed his interest in becoming Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. However Congress high command decided to give it KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar. The reason given to D K Shivakumar was caste basis. As we all know, Parameshwar is a Dalit and he became first Dalit deputy chief minister of Karnataka. As Kumarswamy is a Vokkaliga and CM, high command said that another Vokkaliga cannot be given deputy chief minister.
Even though upset with this development, he was expecting to become Energy Minister. But now it has landed in JD(S) lap and it looks H D Revanna will lap it up. In political circles, it was alleged that the duo had a meeting regarding this. But D K Shivakumar has dismissed it.
He sarcastically said that he had not lost balance of mind to talk to Revanna and requested people not to compare him with an experienced politician and highly placed personality like Revanna.
“I have never applied or lobbied for posts like deputy chief minister, president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, etc. I sincerely worked to keep the flock of legislators together. I will obediently do whatever work the party entrusts to me. In a house, different people are given different responsibilities like sweeping the floor, dusting of the furniture etc. I have been given the duty of a watchman. The post of watchman is trustworthy and highly respected. People inside the house can remain safe only if the watchman is good. I am proud that the party reposed so much trust in me,” he stated.
As per information, out of important portfolios of home, revenue, irrigation, Bengaluru development and industry that Congress has got in its share, home department would be assigned to Dr G Parameshwar. Some reports claim that Shivakumar is inclined to accept revenue or Bengaluru development department. There is also information that Shivakumar’s name is under consideration for the post of the president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.
D K Shivakumar had also expressed his displeasure to Rahul Gandhi, who had visited Bengaluru for swearing in ceremony of Kumaraswamy as chief minister. Rahul had pacified D K Shivakumar and had told him that Congress will reward him soon.
